My first book pick for this month is Trees make Perfect Pets written by Paul Czajak and illustrated by Cathy Gendron. The main character, also named Abigail, is so excited to get her first pet, which she decides will be a tree. Lovingly pulling the tree along begin her in her wagon, Abigail cares for her tree and names him Fido. Most of her family and neighbors do not understand her insistence on treating a tree like a pet, but Abigail ignores their doubts and watches Fido flourish and grow under her tender care. This is a fantastic Easy Childrens' book that showcases trees and how we should treat them with the utmost care. This new book is available to be placed on hold at Walnut Grove Library.
