The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen

Josey Cirrini appears to live a wealthy and peaceful life, but truthfully, she's living a lie. As a young woman in her late twenties, Josey has always lived her grown life as her mother's personal caretaker. She does everything from drive her mother to her appointments to even helping her bathe. To cope with her mother's demands, Josey hides forbidden, sugary desserts in her closet. Josey has always believed she can be content with her monotonous life and her secret stash of sweets, but that all changes when she wakes to find a runaway in her closet. Della Lee Baker, a local waitress, is on the run from her abusive boyfriend and decides the best place to hide is in the richest house in town. Della declares to Josey that she is not leaving her closet until it's safe for her in town. In exchange for this hiding place, Della won't tell Josey's mother about her secret supply of sugar. Terrified of her mother discovering her disobedience, Josey agrees to Della's strange terms. While the two young women are quite different, Josey begins to follow Della's strange request that ultimately lead her away from her mother's controlling life and into the world she has never gotten to know. As she begins to explore more of her own town, Josey meets Chloe Finely, who further helps the young woman experience the world and meet her long time crush and mailman, Adam. Sprinkle in a little magic from her two new friends, and Josey's life is sure to never be the same.

This book was such a fun read and I loved the characters. The three women were well written and their realistic relationships with one another made this book such an enjoyment to read. The story was well-placed and the plot quickly drew me in. I would highly recommend this book to those who enjoy fun, light reading and like a little romance in their novels
