The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

Daphne Bridgerton knows what she wants in life; a loving husband, a happy, bustling home and children of her very own. She's tried to find the perfect man to start her dream life with, but all the men she finds interesting find her to be simply "a good friend." That leaves the boring, old or simply rude men left to be her romantic suitors which she quickly refuses. Having three older brothers does help keep the shady men of society away, but she can't help but feel discouraged. Enter Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings. Handsome and intelligent, the Duke is a man respected and feared by all for his both his immense wealth and cold demeanor. He has plans of his own, the first and foremost being to never get married, never have a happy, bustling home and most definitely never have children. With their life plans so different, one would think the two young people would be the worst match possible, but fate has other plans. When Daphne shares an exciting evening with the Duke of Hasting, the two concoct a plan to get their greatest wishes. They agree to pretend they are courting to keep the strong-willed mothers away from the Duke and to make Daphne the most desirable woman of the season. Their scheme is simple and seems effective, but their well-thought out plan begins to crumble when the two of them find their eyes simply falling upon the other. But when half-truths are told and information withheld, both Daphne and the Duke realize they have lost total control over their perfect plan.

This enchanting novel has seen a huge resurgence in popularity after the release of the new hit Netflix series, Bridgerton. I first watched the series this winter and knew I had to read the book. From it's charming characters to it's beautiful dialogue, this book did not disappoint. I fell in love with the characters all over again and found myself reading through this book at lightening speed. I would highly recommend this book to fans of romance novels, historical fiction or those who watched the Netflix series. This book is available to order through PINES and the Azalea Regional System.
