The Dark Matter of Mona Star by Laura Lee Gulledge

Mona Star is a teen girl that struggles with depression, anxiety, and finding herself. Mona refers to her depression as “dark matter,” and this “dark matter” that follows Mona seems to consume her friendships, school life, and personal life. When she finally understands that her depression does not have to control her life, she learns to overcome it and build better relationships.

I've always loved graphic novels and couldn't help picking this book up when I saw it at my library. This graphic novel touches on many subjects that any young adult or person goes through. Another great author, Raina Telgemeier, has many graphic novels with this theme in mind as well. I was impressed with every detail in the book and the black and white illustrations really make you feel like you are walking in Mona’s shoes. If you love graphic novels or even if you have never read a graphic novel before, I recommend this book. You will love every moment of it.
