Happy Thanksgiving! Next week is a very exciting and heart-warming holiday that focuses on some of the most important things in life. Here is a list of eleven books that will help you and your family find a thankful and grateful heart.
Thanksgiving is a day to have a thankful heart but Emily Ann isn't feeling too thankful for anything this year. With no one to play with and all her family busy cooking, Emily Ann decides to play a trick to have some fun. Will Emily Ann succeed with her prank or will she be reminded of the true meaning of such a busy holiday? This is one of my favorite Thanksgiving stories with its beautiful rhyming scheme and lovely illustrations.
Thanksgiving is a well known holiday but many children do not understand how or why it was created. This delightful children's book describes the history using fun, interesting language that keeps a child attention. This book is great as a read aloud but even better for early readers who want to start reading on their own.
It's the day before Thanksgiving and Turkey knows what that means. The farmer will be looking for a yummy turkey for tomorrow's Thanksgiving meal. Turkey must escape so he does the only thing he knows to do: run! Turkey leads the farmer on a wild chase through the farmyard with Turkey trying his hardest to blend in with the other animals. This funny book is sure to put a smile on everyone's face.
Everyone in class is ecstatic about Thanksgiving and their teacher Mrs. Wright has given them the assignment of making a Thanksgiving project and writing down one thing they are thankful for. Sam enjoys Thanksgiving but he can't think of a single thing he is thankful for much less a project to share with the whole class. His friends share what they are grateful for with ease, but will Sam think of something before it is too late? This charming story does a wonderful job of embracing the holiday with all it's many different traditions and values.
This familiar poem is now a gorgeously illustrated picture book celebrating the exciting journey of a family traveling to visit their grandparents on Thanksgiving day. The poem is fun and cheerful, celebrating the yearly trips to visit family for the holidays. The pages of this book are extremely sturdy making it a great choice for young children.
America has been a place many people have come to in hopes of escaping persecution or starting a new life for themselves and their family. This beautiful children's book follows the journey of refugees from the Caribbean to America and the many perils they faced. Wonderfully illustrated and written, this book perfectly conveys the reason we celebrate Thanksgiving in America.
When the Thanksgiving bowl gets left outside, a strong wind carries it away where it begins a year long journey across the country. This delightful tale tells the story of the bowl and all the people who used it for different activities and fun tasks.
One teensy-tiny green pea is a feast for a mouse, but wait what's that? Is that a yummy cranberry? Is that a shiny black olive and a crunchy carrot? Mouse's eyes are bigger than his stomach in this darling picture book. The more Mouse finds, the higher his stack of delicious Thanksgiving food becomes. There's only one problem: Mouse has forgotten about the cat! Will Mouse still have his feast or will things all topple to the ground?
Miguel's father has sent a very special gift home for his family, a thanksgiving turkey! Miguel decides to name her Gracias. While everyone talks about eating Gracias, Miguel can only see his new turkey as his friend. This hilarious story is wonderful read for both young and old alike.
Lonely and bored, Bear can't decide what to do when suddenly the perfect idea springs to mind: he can have a feast with all his friends! Bear is so excited until he looks in his cupboard and realizes he has nothing to share. As his friends gather in his cave, Bear learns the importance of saying thanks to his dearest friends.
It's Thanksgiving day and all the family is gathered together to enjoy a yummy meal on the table granddad built. From the delicious pie the little narrator made, to the napkins Mom sewed, the book goes through all the steps taken to set the table on Thanksgiving day. The focus is most definitely on family and I loved the loving family who celebrated the day with love and gratitude.
