Star Stories by Anita Ganeri

Understanding of the night sky is something that people across the centuries have worked toward. They have created legends and myths to explain the stars and constellations and to place meaning behind their presence. Some of these stories have been forgotten and pushed away. I have always enjoyed reading about the night sky and myths and this book combines both perfectly.

Star Stories by Anita Ganeri and illustrated by Andy Wilx is a juvenile nonfiction book that explores the many stories and legends from across the centuries surrounding the constellations. Each story is retold in a new light that allows young readers and even young listeners to enjoy each folktale and myth. The author groups each of the stories based upon their country of origin with stories ranging from across the globe. Each story is relatively short and perfect for a quick story before bedtime. The illustrations also help convey the meaning of each tale and color choices are quite soothing and enchanting. I would recommend this for 2nd-7th grade children.
