Savannah from Savannah by Denise Hildreth Jones

I was born and raised here in Georgia and I love the South. I love the people, the accents, the food and the overall atmosphere. Maybe I don't love the summer humidity but I do love most things about the South. I also love reading about my home so a good southern novel is always appreciated. When I was out and about one summer afternoon a few years ago, I happened to stop at a yard sale run by three young women. I found some great Levi jeans and a southern novel I had never heard of. The cover and title were eye catching and I couldn't resist buying it for a dollar.

Savannah from Savannah by Denise Hildreth Jones was a lucky find as it is now one of my favorite books. The main protagonist, Savannah is returning to her home city after rejecting a publishing contract for her book. She hopes to restart her life and find a job working in the local paper. Her home city is the beautiful and historic Savannah, Georgia and she returns to live in her childhood home with her parents and younger brother. Yet, Savannah struggles to live under the same roof as her overly enthusiastic mother. The two women are as different as can be and Savannah desperately tries to push herself out of her mother's controlling but kindly grip. Savannah begins to find herself in her new job in her home city through new adventures and even misadventures. Her story is a funny and delightful coming of age story with lovely characters and a enthralling plot.

I loved this book! It made me laugh so many times and the characters made the novel come alive. Savannah in particular was a relatable character and I found myself connecting with her throughout the story. Even though it is a light read, it has some delightful life lessons sprinkled throughout. I highly recommend this book if you want a fun summer read.
