As many of you know, this year's Summer Reading Program theme is "Imagine Your Story." This is a time to celebrate fantasy and fairy tales and a child's imagination. I've picked out five books from our Easy Children's Section that would be a great story to read this summer.
Sophie is a princess who lives in a tiny house by a magic beanstalk. High above the clouds lives a fearsome giant and this giant never seems to sleep. Every night he stomps about and keeps Sophie and her parents awake with his heavy footsteps and loud voice. How will they ever get a good night's sleep? Princess Sophie will save her kingdom by climbing up the beanstalk and helping the poor giant get some much needed sleep. This delightful book demonstrates the importance of kindness along with perseverance.
One lonely night, a kind dragon steps right out of book owned by a boy named Georgie. The dragon tells Georgie that he is afraid of the knight so he decided to leave the book. Georgia, misunderstanding the dragon's fear, says he too is afraid of the night. The two decide to fly away together to find someplace safe from the knight/night. This is a lovely book on friendship and overcoming one's fear.
After a young girl is tucked into bed each night, a magical staircase and stunning coach appears to take her away to her kingdom. For you see, this is not just any girl, this is a part time princess! Each night she saves her kingdom as a princess and firefighter. She may be part time, but she's always busy as a princess! This fun picture book not only has a wonderful story but also fabulous illustrations.
King Jack and his loyal men are here! They not only have to build their fort but most also fight the bad dragons and terrible beasts roaming the woods. But when his loyal men must go home that night, will King Jack be able to brave the night alone? This story focuses on the power of imagination and the fun you can have when you use it.
It's time for the princess alphabet party! The princesses from all over are coming together to have a huge party. But oh my! They are not the most proper of princesses and seem to be quite independent. This book is a fun way to help your little princesses and princes learn the letters of the alphabet.
