Gardening Easy Children's Book List

Updated: Aug 5, 2020

Everyone seems to be working in their gardens during this time of year so I thought I would share a delightful list of gardening themed picture books. All of the books listed are available through PINES.

It's time to plant a garden and the narrator shares the rainbow flora and fauna they and their mother plant each year. This book has beautiful illustrations with bold, striking use of colors and shapes. This classic picture book is wonderful for learning not only about gardening but also about colors.

What would you plant in your very own garden? This young girl has many ideas such as seashells and jelly beans and umbrellas and keys. She even has delightful plans for the wildlife that would live in her garden. As you read this exciting story, you discover the infinite imagination of a young mind and the joy of creativity in the garden.

This beautiful picture book is made for parents to help guide them in teaching gardening to children. The author writes clear instructions for a variety of vegetables and flowers, including garden crafts and activities. The illustrations are beautiful and bright; kids will enjoy flipping through the pages to see the dazzling pictures.

How do you care for a fern? One simple inquiry changes the lives of the children in this book, the future gardeners. After accidentally killing their first fern, the children quickly get to work learning about plant care. Soon they are raising many potted plants inside, which leads them to gardening outside. With ups and downs, the gardeners learn more and more about their garden and how to properly tend it. With lovely illustrations and a sweet, personal tale, this book is a wonderful read for any family with or without a green thumb.

One morning, the residents of Grimloch Lane wake up to discover a topiary of a wise owl looking down upon them. Is it magic? Everyday a new topiary appears, and everyday William wonders how such a awe-inspiring masterpiece could be made. When William finally finds the creator, he learns more than he could have ever dreamed about gardening Grimloch Lane. This soothing story is beautifully illustrated with tranquil colors and simple art, making it the perfect story to read before nap time or bedtime.
