She saves a squirrel from her neighbors vacuum cleaner, an ordeal that imbues the squirrel with superpowers. Flora names the squirrel Ulysses. Flora is an avid reader of the comic books The Illuminated Adventures of the Amazing Incandesto! This love of comic books colors how Flora sees and interprets the world around her. Flora and Ulysses actually save each other as well as other quirky characters you meet in the book. I hope you will give this book a read, it is sometimes funny, sometimes scary, sometimes sad, but always engaging and the ending is heart warming and hopeful.
