What better way to talk about environmental impact with kids than with plastic ducks! Some of us may recall the accidental dumping of 28,000 plastic ducks in the Pacific Ocean in 1992 but many kids today have never heard about this event. Written in a fun story format, follow the journey of one yellow toy duck as he travels across the ocean and discovers the dangers that face the ocean today from illegal dumping and pollution. With fun information boxes and easy to understand language, this picture book is a joy to read for both kids and adults. One section that I am especially fond of is the last few pages which include information about plastic and how it affects the natural world around us. This section also includes stories about kids who have helped spur the environmental movement forwards in recent years. This book is a great choice for kids 7 to 10 years old and is available at the Walnut Grove Library.
