Black Canary: Ignite Written by Meg Cabot and Illustrated by Cara McGee

Middle School is hard enough but when you suddenly have mysterious superpowers, things get a lot more difficult. Dinah Lance is a spunky junior high student with high hopes of winning the upcoming Battle of the Bands competition with her two best friends. She has big dreams but for some unknown reason, things keep breaking around her. From display windows to the principal's favorite mug, Dinah seems to bring trouble wherever she goes. When an old enemy of her mother's returns, Dinah discovers her mother's secret superpower, a supersonic voice, has been passed down to her. With help from her singing teacher and P.E. coach, Dinah must learn to control her superpower and keep her family and friends safe.

This juvenile graphic novel was a fun and easy read. The story was short and sweet and the characters were very diverse. I also loved the art style and found the illustrations to fit perfectly with the subject matter. This book is definitely written towards a younger audience so I would recommend it for elementary to middle school readers.
