Baking for the Holidays: 50+ Treats for a Festive Season by Sarah Kieffer

The author of 100 Cookies is back with a recipe book filled with holiday sweets and treats. With over 50 mouthwatering desserts, Sarah Kieffer once again displays her fantastic skills as a baker. Divided into five sections, the book includes a chapter on morning breads and pastries, holiday desserts, gift giving, beyond Christmas, and extras. The author also includes an introduction that goes over the different tools and ingredients that the reader might need while baking with these recipes. I personally found this section to be very interesting and enjoyed reading about the different types of chocolate, brown sugar and even flour and how to use each of them effectively. The instructions are clear and easy to follow with European conversions added for the reader's convenience. At the end of some of the recipes, the author includes a notes section for any tips or advice that might be useful when making the recipe. Some of the recipes are a bit more time consuming, but thankfully the reward is sweet and well worth the effort. This book is a great choice not only during the holidays but any time during the fall or winter season. This cookbook is available at the Walnut Grove Library.
