September is Library Card Sign Up Month so today's post is all about libraries and the many wonderful things you can do with your library card. These lovely books are wonderful for young listeners and readers alike.
When its a rainy day, there's only one thing to do; go to the library and pick out a book or two! There are so many friends at the library and so many books to read. Winnie the Pooh wants you to take him home with you and so does, Madeline, the Cat in the Hat, and Pinocchio too! The Library Book is one of my favorite's on this list with it's adorable illustrations and it's very own song included on the inside cover.
When Amelia Bedlia goes to the library, she is thrilled to see all the amazing books and is even more thrilled when she receives her own library card. The librarian tells her that she must be careful with the books she checks out. When a random thunderstorm pops up and ruins her library book, will she ever be able to get books from the library again? This book is wonderful introduction to the library for young readers and listeners.
What's that? There's a lion in the library? Well, Miss Merriweather says he can stay if he follows the rules. Well, Lion is more than prepared to do that. After all, he can't stand to miss story hour! This lovely picture book includes beautiful illustrations and a story sure to warm your heart
Tomás and his family have moved to their new home Iowa for the summer. Tomás misses his home in Texas but he and his family make the best of it. One good thing is Papá Grande is with them and he can still tell his amazing stories. Soon enough, Tomás learns them all by heart so Papá Grande tells him to go find new stories at the library. Tomás quickly finds he loves the library and the nice library lady who helps him find the perfect book to read. This lovely picture book celebrates the real Tomás Rivera who's love of books was instilled in him by the local librarian.
Madeline Finn does not like to read. Whenever she tries to read aloud, the words get stuck in her mouth and people giggle when she makes mistakes. Madeline Finn never gets a star sticker but always get a heart sticker that says "keep trying." When her mother takes her to the library, the librarian asks if she might like to read to a dog and introduces her to Bonnie. Bonnie is sweet and patient and doesn't giggle when Madeline Finn makes a mistake. Soon Madeline Finn begins to feel more confident when she read aloud but will she be able to earn a star sticker from her teacher?
Fortitude and Patience are the grand lions that have guarded the New York Public Library since 1911. When Patience wanders off and the sun is almost risen, Fortitude must search for his twin before it is too late. Follow Fortitude as he gets lost in the library and discovers a brand new world of books and wondrous stories.
D.W. is anxious to get her own library card but to do that, she has to right her full name, Dora Winifred Read. She soon learns that practice makes perfect and she is finally able to write her full name on her new library card. This classic book teaches the importance and value of a library card.
When bulldozers appear across the street, Dinah quickly discovers that there will be a new library built. Dinah is ecstatic but unfortunately she learns patience as it takes many months for the library to be built. Just like their vegetable garden, it can take a long time for it to grow. How My Library Grew By Dinah is a sweet little book that is sure to bring a smile to your face.
Bear likes to read his seven books and is quite content to read only those seven books, thank you very much, but Mouse is insistent they take a short trip to the library. Bear is certain there can be nothing more interesting than the books he already has at home but reluctantly goes with his little friend. While there, Mouse brings Bear many different books but Bear will not read a single one and demands to go home. Yet, when he listens to the librarian read a book for Story Time, maybe reading a new book isn't such a bad thing after all.
It's time to clean out Splat the Cat's closet and boy, it is a mess! While clearing out all his old clothes, toys and books, Splat discovers there is a library book hidden deep within his closet. But, oh no! It's overdue! Now Splat is scared! What will the library do when they discover what he has done? Should he tell the truth or keep the book hidden? This book is a wonderful example of the importance of honesty and responsibility.
